Navigation Maps and Road Angel Safety Data
Mapping Updates
Map suppliers provide releases of their latest maps at 6 and 12 month intervals. Road
Angel informs existing users of up-coming mapping releases and makes them available
for purchase on SD cards.
Road Angel always provides the latest maps of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana,
Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique covering over 569,181 kms of roads and more than
92,260 Points of Interest. These are bundled together in the Southern African map
falling under South Africa.
Southern Africa Q4 2009 Map Coverage Facts:
Maps reach 100 percent of the population.
Include South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique.
Drivable road network within South Africa stands at 470,232Km
Number of relevant points of interest is 82,468 including 8,416 restaurants, 5,340
filling stations, 3,451 ATMS and 4,571 Hotels and Accommodation.
Recent improvements include the addition of all road name changes in Gauteng, KZN
and elsewhere. 105 Game and National parks have been updated and included. 2010
World Cup event locations have been added and 25 cities in the country have been
updated.
Many new township and suburban areas have been included eg. Mamelodi and Eersterus
in Pretoria.

Namibia Map Coverage Facts:
Maps reach 100 percent of the population.
Drivable road network includes 47,944Km of roads.
Number of relevant Points of Interest (POI) is 5,393 including 153 restaurants,
265 filling stations, 106 ATMs, 245 Hotels and accommodation.
Recent improvements include the addition of 106 municipalities since 2008. Windhoek
maps now offer Prime Coverage.

Botswana Map Coverage Facts:
The map of Botswana covers 12% of the population as Prime Coverage. The rest
of the country is covered as a combination of Network and City-to-City Coverage.
Drivable road network includes 17,768Km of roads.
Number of relevant Points of Interest (POI) is 2,204 including 113 restaurants,
149 filling stations, 67 ATMs, 96 Hotels and accommodation.
Recent improvements include the addition of 128 settlements from 2008 to 2009 and
now a further 27 new settlements have been added.

Lesotho Map Coverage Facts:
The map of Lesotho covers 7% of the population as Prime. The rest of the
country is covered as Network Coverage.
Drivable road network includes 2,070Km of roads.
Number of relevant Points of Interest (POI) is 987 including 44 restaurants, 62
filling stations, 22 ATMs, 32 Hotels and accommodation.
Recent improvements include the updating of Maseru and City-to-city Network being
present for the entire country.

Swaziland Map Coverage Facts:
The map of Swaziland covers 6% of the population as Prime Coverage. The rest
of the country is covered as City-to-City Coverage.
Drivable road network includes 1,865Km of roads.
Number of relevant Points of Interest (POI) is 498 including 40 restaurants, 64
filling stations, 34 ATMs, 47 Hotels and accommodation.

Mozambique Map Coverage Facts
The Intermediate map of Mozambique covers the entire country and includes 29,302
km of road, out of which 1,359 (Maputo and connectors in the South) are routable.

Safety Data Updates
|
Road Angel Safety Data is made up of Fixed Speedtraps, Laser/Radar Speedtrap, High-accident Zones, Smash & Grab Hotspots and Schools.
Safety data is updated on a daily to weekly basis. Please update your Road Angel device at least once a month to take advantage of the latest data.
